Kenneth C. McKenzie was born in Caribou, Colo. His family moved to Nederland, then to Boulder in 1890 so he could attend school. Working as a miner, he soon became skilled as a hoisting engineer. He was hoisting engineer for the construction of the Barker Dam near Nederland, Colo., and the hydroelectric power house in Boulder Canyon, starting in 1907.
